UX Designer / Researcher
Hello
My name is Kay, and I'm a MS Student at Drexel University. I'm currently pursuing my Master's in Human Computer Interaction and UX Design. I've been working in the travel industry most of my career, and within that time frame, while working on various projects, I've developed a keen interest for HCI/UX Design. My goal currently is to become a UX Designer / Researcher. Things that interest me includes traveling, designing, architecture and reading.
My Story
I am honored for the opportunity to express my interest in developing a career in UX Design/ Research. Earning my Master’s Degree in Human Computer Interaction and UX Design would not just be another level of advancement for me, but an actual dream come true. I’ve been on a journey with on main goal in mind; simply to find my true purpose. Throughout the years I’ve learned the importance of knowing your values, and how imperative that they line up with what you do, and how you show up in life. For me, this includes many factures; design – art, helping others, and making a positive impact.
One of the many unique qualities about me is my passion for art and design. If you are
close to me, you’d quickly acknowledge that this is one of the many traits. My keen attention to
detail, perfectionism and passion for aesthetics shows up in many ways in my life. It’s in the way
I dress, the way I decorate my home, even in the way I celebrate and thank others; it’s a big part
of who I am. I also own many sketches and designs I’ve created in my design book over the
years. The thing is, I’ve always viewed design and art as more of a hobby, a way to express
myself creatively. That is until I got deeply connected to the world of technology, and learned a
new concept of how I can combine the two.
In 2021 I graduated from Flatiron School with a certificate in Software Engineering.
During this time, I learned how to code, I developed my problem-solving skills, but I also
quickly realized how much more I enjoyed the Frontend design. I was way more interested in
how the features and icons were laid out on the page, and how these adjustments would enhance
my clients experience while using the page, hence my current desire to learn as much as possible
about UX design. My journey at Flatiron School was extremely challenging, yet rewarding. It
was an experience that only further propelled me into taking that necessary next step, and that
was to further advance my career with my Masters in technology.
So why Human Computer Interaction, vs just a UX Design course? This has everything
to do with my current skills and work experience. I wanted to find a way bring everything I’ve
learned into this industry. I’ve spent over 15 years in hospitality, customer service, sales, and
management. When I combine these skills, with my passion for helping others into the world of
technology, there’s no limit on what I’ll accomplish. I care about the human experience, and I
love technology and I find it to be very interesting the way we as humans interact with this
technology. I understand that this industry is constantly changing and evolving, and I will be on a
journey of continuous learning, but this is something that I am also excited about. I always knew
that I wanted to move into to the world of technology, but it was more important to me that I find
a space where I can make the biggest impact, and I chose a career where I can live my purpose.
